The Last Subtropical Affair, 2022-25
Pom poms handmade from:
Neon acrylic yarns, metallic sewing threads,
glow-in-the-dark threads, cotton strips.
Supported from metal framework. This pom pom ensemble began its life as a techno-fiber neon yarn installation for a music event in a beautiful community garden in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood. It was created during a time when the world descended upon the city for Miami Music Week, bringing a spotlight to the enchanting world that lies intertwined within the beauty, beats, humidity and heat. This installation has been designed for such an experience, being specifically bold during the daytime and then changing into a new outfit for night, unveiled by UV lighting and even darkness as it fluoresces brightly across the spectrums of stage lights. Sadly, garden space is no more. Change is eternal and fleeting, and as such, this piece is the last reminder of those fortunate days and nights spent in this space of communal gathering, beneath the glowing string lights and the embers of lasers refracted from disco balls high in the palms.
